Testing for Tuberculosis is a requirement for many jobs that work with children, healthcare positions and schools.
Unless you have had a positive PPD result in the past, we usually use a test that looks for an allergic reaction as a sign that you may have been exposed to the Tuberculosis bacteria.

Why Test for TB?
Tuberculosis is a bacteria that can be very contagious. To help prevent TB infections spreading in the community, testing of certain members is done routinely.
TB testing can identify people who have a TB infection but no symptoms.
Positive PPD Results:
Positive PPD results most likely mean that you have been exposed to some proteins of the Tuberculosis bacteria (either through the BCG vaccination, a past infection or a current infection). Patients with Positive PPD Results should never have another PPD again as it will be positive.
Most require a Chest X-ray to confirm that you do not have active Tuberculosis and some require a blood test called Quantiferon-TB Gold.
